Tube Collection

The Institute of High Frequency Technology hosts a large collection of electron tubes in the foyer of its building. The collection shows an overview of European developments in the area of vaccuum electronics from the early days of amplifier tubes to modern high-power klystrons for particle accelerators. The complete line of tubes “Made in Germany” for broadcast receivers is presented together with many samples of transmitter, rectifier, and picture tubes as well as tubes used by the German forces during WW II. The main focus is on microwave tubes, which was also the research area of the founder of the Institute, Prof. Döring.

Altogether the collection comprises almost 900 exhibits.

Our exhibition is complemented by a collection of historic communication equipment maintained by Institut für Nachrichtentechnik.
